As part of St Andrew’s Cathedral School, joining Gawura School means becoming part of a purpose-driven, collaborative and high-performing community, where both teaching staff and professional and operational staff are known for their warmth, expertise, commitment to educational excellence, and restoration.
Gawura School has a unique model of First Nations education: our faith in Jesus Christ, His mission and His work motivates us to seek unity and create a gracious space where we meet each other in difference, finding transformation and healing through everyday encounters.
We seek highly engaged, expert, culturally responsive staff who believe in the importance of relationships to a student’s education and who are passionate about developing partnerships with parents. Our highly relational teachers, mentors, and Elders are invested in students accessing First Nations knowledges, embracing their proud history and culture, and understanding the fullness of who they are.
Staff need to understand First Nations cultures and the unique challenges First Nations children and families experience, and work closely with Elders and mentors in a community based on trust and high expectations, in order to support each student’s academic growth, confidence and identity.
We ‘bridge worlds’ between faith and culture, between ancient wisdom and contemporary learning, providing an exceptional, culturally responsive education for First Nations children in a nurturing, values-driven environment.
We ‘build futures’ by celebrating the cultural identities of First Nations students as a vital source of strength, resilience and connection. Our teachers and staff value each student as unique, loved by their Creator God, and infinitely precious.
We welcome staff of First Nations heritage and culturally responsive staff who can support students to embrace their God-given gifts and cultural assets, find their voice and individual strengths and passions, and who can support students to create pathways for further education and employment.
We value educators and professionals who are deeply committed to:
- an authentic Christian faith that is engaging, relational and outward looking, and motivated by peacekeeping and justice, seeks to build genuine restoration for First Nations peoples
- culturally responsive teaching and learning
- building strong partnerships with families and community
- developing trusting relationships based on deep care and supporting the holistic development of every student
- contributing to a professional, collaborative and reflective staff culture
